Garden State

How do you wrap up the workday once summer comes? Head to biergarten-type bars to enjoy a cold one, or five, in the southern heat.

Atkin’s Park
2840 Atlanta Rd. (@ Spring St.)
Smyrna 770.435.1887
Other locations
Aside from the perk of a partially covered patio (um, hello, skin cancer?) and the super-friendly wait staff, this bar pulls an excellent pint every time, served up with mouth-watering plates fancy enough for a five-star restaurant.

Fox & Hounds
1193 Collier Rd. NW (@ Defoor’s Ferry Rd. NW)
West Midtown 404.352.1007
The beers flow in a cheery manner at this English pub. The patio is a welcoming spot to down pints of the frothy stuff while noshing on crispy fish tacos.

Garrison’s Broiler & Tap
4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. (@ Hammond Dr.)
Dunwoody 770.350.0134
Other locations
Didn’t think you could enjoy a variety of beers at a patio connected to a mall? Think again. In a chi-chi atmosphere, Garrisons offers up pints a plenty with ample people-watching.

Joe’s on Juniper
1049 Juniper St. (@ 11th St.)
Midtown 404.875.6634
Gay Atlanta and its supporters are all over this spacious patio overflowing with draught and tap choices. The bar-style food is tasty, as is the eye candy serving it.

Park Tavern
500 10th St. NE (@ Monroe Dr.)
Midtown 404.249.0001
A hot list of beer gardens wouldn’t be complete without Atlanta’s beloved Park Tavern. The large lawn, aka Piedmont Park, serves as an outdoor television of sorts to watch as you put away as many beers as your already-growing beer belly can handle.

Chin Up

Surf's up and you should be, too. Get your skin in gear with a corrective facial at Skin Essence (2140 Peachtree Rd. NW, 404.603.9004, also in Decatur). The salon's esteemed therapeutic treatment includes a bio-lift exfoliation, cleansing with acne scrub, steam mist with herbal enzyme treatment, blackhead/whitehead removal, natural clay mask, and anti-acne treatment with sun block. All for the low price of $59.99.

Tip the Lady

Men still dominate most of the corporate world. Don’t let them take over our nightlife scene, too. Go on and tip the girls behind the bar at these fine spots...and mighty fine women, too.

Aiko
128 E. Andrews Dr. (Paces Pl. & Roswell Rd.)
Buckhead 404.869.4800
If sushi is an aphrodisiac, you’re going to feel one hell of a tingle. The bars are mainly tended by ultra-hot girls, so unless you’re the jealous, catfighting type, you’ll enjoy the eye candy here and maybe get some fashion tips while you celebrate women’s rights and all that jazz.

Birdie’s
115 Sycamore St. (@ Church St.)
Decatur 404.371.9906
There’s hardly a more girl-friendly spot than this predominantly lesbian hangout. There’s a boy behind the bar sometimes, but if you want a feminine touch on your cocktail mix, this is the place to go. Breeder or gay, you’ll feel right at home with the oversized leather sofas, casual atmosphere, and art gallery.

Dixie Tavern
2319 Windy Hill Rd. SE (@ Cobb Pkwy.)
Marietta 770.690.0090
Loud and clear, this always-hopping bar is a constant host to local bands. The female bartenders here rock for understanding exactly what you need, even when the place is shaking louder than Sanjaya’s fans after he finally got kicked off.

Leopard Lounge
84 12th St. (@ Williams St. NW)
Midtown 404.875.7562
There are some mean cocktail-throwin’ women behind the bar here, and by mean, we mean impressive, and by throwin,’ we mean mixin.’ Ladies can get ultra-happy at this retro-glam bar that caters to women with $3 cocktails, $5 martinis, and free admission all night on Saturdays.

Wild Bill’s
2075 Market St. (@ Pleasant Hill Rd.)
Duluth 678.473.1000
Ever since our coveted Coyote Ugly closed, this is as close as we’re gonna get to boot-stompin’ lady bartenders rocking the night away. This rock-star country-western bar keeps the ladies more than pleased on Wednesdays with insane cash giveaways and free admission until midnight.

...And A Bottle Of Rum

The onset of warm weather means skimpy clothes, steamy nights, cheesy island music, sunblock, coconut-scented lotion, and an ample supply of tropical drinks. Cheers! We love it!

Cheeseburger in Paradise
1230 Ashford Crossing (@ Perimeter Pl., behind Perimeter Mall)
Dunwoody 770.730.0782
There's only one of these tropical delights in Georgia. The Caribbean-themed bar and restaurant serves up delicious frothy frozen rum-based concoctions while a band covers beach tunes Wednesday through Sunday.

Downtown 404.572.9964
A tropical storm’s a’brewin’ in here with all the blended icy concoctions, including old standbys such as Rum Runner and Hurricane, along with a few newcomers such as the Strawnanna. Get your buzz on and shake to some Buffett cover bands.

Jamaica Jamaica
50 Upper Alabama St. SW (@ Underground Atlanta)
Downtown 404.526.6467
From traditional servings of Jamaican fare to Rastafarians and regular ol’ laid-back hipsters mingling well with tourists, it’s all about the celebration of the tropical life here, mon. Go early for a table to store your drinks at since this place packs it out and be sure to try the Bob Marley, their signature cocktail with four shots of Fruit rum.

Jenean’s Caribbean Bar & Grill
2520 Piedmont Rd. NE (@ Morosgo Dr.)
Midtown 404.816.8675
Islanders go here to settle in to their natural habitat, guzzling up the tropical drinks like Hummingbird and Bahama Mama, while and listening to international music. Don’t worry if you don’t have dreds; it’s all good in this hood.

Vickery's Bar & Grill
1106 Crescent Ave. NE (13th & 14th Sts.)
Midtown 404.881.1106
This Cuban/Southern-themed bar and grill markets itself as an historic hotspot, so it’s heavy on the touristy crowd who digs PBRs, but the Jimmy Buffet songs and wacky waiters give it quite the dash of Caribbean as does their rum.

Take a walk on the wild side by making out with someone of the same sex (or who’s just dressed like that).

Want to walk the plank? OK, so maybe it's a trapeze, but swing over to this members-only sex den for no-holds-barred shared lovin’ to get your lusty groove on, if you’re into that sort of thing. Not sure if cops ever stop in here, unless their looking for new ways to use their shiny cuffs.

Aquanada Jewelry @ Premiere of Georgia Rule

Aquanada Jewelry Donates $4,000 In Gift Certificates To G-CAPP For Its Fight Against Adolescent Pregnancy

ATLANTA (May 7, 2007)
— Aquanada announces today the in-kind donation of $4,000 to G-CAPP (Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention) for the patron gift bags presented to attendees of the Southeast premiere of Georgia Rule, held tonight, May 7, 2007, at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The in-kind donation was made by Kirsten Ott, owner and designer for Aquanada. Tonight the 160 gift certificates (valued at $25 each) will be presented to the patrons at the Annual VIP benefit for G-CAPP. G-CAPP delivers innovative programs and services to Georgia's youth most vulnerable to becoming parents too soon. G-CAPP's work has contributed to a 30 percent decline in teenage pregnancy over the past decade, saving Georgia taxpayers $227 million dollars.

Georgia Rule, a Universal Pictures film by writer Mark Andrus and director, Garry Marshall, stars Jane Fonda, Desperate Housewives' Felicity Huffman and teen actress, Lindsay Lohan. Georgia Rule follows a rebellious, uncontrollable teenager (Lohan) who is hauled off by her dysfunctional mother (Huffman) to spend the summer with her grandmother (Fonda). Her journey will lead all three women to revelations of buried family secrets and an understanding that — regardless what happens — the ties that bind can never be broken.

His name was Lola...

Ok, we may not know that much about Cinco de Mayo, Mexico, or be able to pronounce Oaxaca, but we do know tequila, enchiladas, and now Alejandro Carlín. This kick-ass fashion designer behind the Mexican-based Lola de Alejandro clothing has been gracing the pages of fashion magazines, catwalks, high-end boutiques, and stars since late 2003. Now before you start singing Copacabana and twirling around the room (Lola, get it?), let us tell you a little more about this muy calienté line!

A luxury fashion icon in Mexico, Alejandro Carlín is plowing through the border, and is picking up steam with each new collection that he launches. He introduced his fall line La Libération de Fée line at Fashion Week Mexico, which consists of satin fabrics that exude luxe fashion in an easygoing style. And forget about those friend-of-ana models; Carlín has broken barriers in more ways than one by using curvaceous models to show off his ultra-feminine threads…and we’re loving it!

Bull-fighter chic meets red-carpet elegance as Carlín combines modern designs with avant-garde cuts. Cinched pants, gorgeous gowns, structured jackets, and asymmetrical skirts are accented with ruffles, bows, and lace in gray tones, black, and white. Carlín made each look pop with bright red pumps sure to capture everyone’s eye. Here are a few of our faves from La Libération de Fée that caught our eye.

•Get ScarJo fabulous in this pure white satin gown. Its understated elegance is paired with sex appeal and makes it perfect for any red carpet celebration…or any celebration for that matter.

•Lace, satin, and cutouts…oh my! Hugging in all the right places, this number goes far beyond any little black dress. Stun the crowd with the high neck, bare back, tight fit, and lace underlay.

•Take the plunge with this deep v-neck shirt with ruched sleeves. Paired with a sailor-esque pencil skirt accented with ruffles and buttons and topped with his signature red pumps, this look is muy calienté!

•Channel your inner Madonna circa Evita with this chic look. A sexy black satin deep v-neck shirt complements a cream pencil skirt detailed with pleats creating a one-of-a-kind look.

•Be the hottest matador this side of the border with this sleek look. Tight, ruched, high-waisted satin pants are paired with a three-quarter structured jacket and scarf. This is one hot look, and that’s no bull!
