About Aquanada
An online-based upscale e-boutique, Aquanada showcases luxe handcrafted jewelry designed and created by Atlanta-based indie designer Kirsten Ott. The Aquanada jewelry collection complements and celebrates the multifaceted components of the aesthetically inclined woman. (A ruggedly handsome men's line is coming soon.) Aquanada incorporates charms, chains, semiprecious gems, pearls, precious metals, Swarovski crystals, shells, wood, vintage confections, found objects and glass into fashionable designs embracing modern aesthetics with timeless motifs. The playful titles of Aquanada jewelry are culled from idioms, tart quips, sayings and clichés, such as {still waters run deep} (a double strand of sterling silver chains—one sports a faceted aquamarine glass briolette while a sterling silver anchor is suspended on the lower chain) and {finders keepers} (a charm necklace of oceanic nostalgia with a sterling silver starfish and a strawberry quartz teardrop). Kirsten creates custom designs for bridal parties and special gifts, as well as customizing items from her collection for her clientele with her “If Only” special orders department. A former magazine editor, Kirsten believes in the power of language. Check out her helpful glossary/lexicon on www.aquanada.com, which provides clients with explanations and definitions on stones, metals, jewelry lingo and more. Contact Kirsten at 404.314.2672.

Avant Odd
What’s in a name? Sometimes a lot, other times, not much at all. Curious about some of the strangest bar names in town? Yeah, we were too.
Au Pied de Cochon
3315 Peachtree Rd. NE (@ Highland Dr. NE)
Buckhead 404.946.9070

Baraonda Caffe Italiano
710 Peachtree St. NE (@ Ponce de Leon Ave.)
Midtown 404.879.9962
Italian for “big crowd,” this name’s really just meant to screw with us drunks, since everyone—tipsy or not—calls it Baronda, and leaves out that annoying second “a.”
Django
495 Peachtree St. (@ Pine St.)
Downtown 404.347.8648
What sounds like a cross between a new-fangled banjo bar and a gypsy hangout is actually a funky and hip joint named after jazz crooner Django Reinhardt.
El Bar
939 Ponce de Leon Ave. (@ Frederica St.)
Poncey Highlands 678.613.3807
Hidden below El Azteca Mexican restaurant, this velvet-rope-protected danceteria offers an unusually simple but effective name.

Soap Star
Don’t be a lye-er, ever since you saw Brad Pitt’s rock-hard, chiseled, godly, makes-you-want-to-rip-your-clothes-off-and…what? Oh sorry…soap! Yeah, so ever since Brad Pitt and Edward Norton made looking dirty hot while creating soap in their kitchen, we’ve always wanted to try it. Follow this step-by-step game plan to create your own…hey, after gettin’ dirty you need something to cleanse your eternally damned soul. Hot guy not included.
Gather Your Gear
Head to your nearest arts and crafts store and pick up these items:
*Bars of natural soap—free of fragrance and color
*Soap molds (these come in all sorts of shapes and sizes)
*Essential oils (lavender for calming your nerves from social drama, patchouli for stoners, ginger for increased sex appeal, and citrus for energy after late-night parties)
*Oats (for sloughing)
*Vitamin E oil (for parched skin)
*Almond, vanilla, or coconut oil (hey, you gotta smell nice!)
Then drop by your local grocery store for:
*Food coloring
*Biggest handle of rum you can find, marg mix, ice (for you, not the soap)
Raid your kitchen cabinets (or your friend’s) for these necessary components:
*Blender or food processor (preferably both so you can mix margs in one and the soap in the other....warning: do not combine!)
*Grater
*Pot (the legal kind…sorry)
*Glass bowl (uh, the kind your mom might have…?)
Stop by the local AA outpost for:
*A totally hot self-destructive stud (the handle of rum also comes in handy here)
Step-by-Step Regime
Now follow these easy steps to clean up your act:
1. Cut a hole in the box…whoops, wrong DIY craft.
2. Grate soap with a blender or food processor.
3. Have a margarita.
4. Boil a pot of water.
5. Add a dash of almond, vanilla, or coconut oil into the bowl.
6. Add the soap into the bowl.
7. Have a margarita.
8. Pour the heated water into the bowl until mixture changes into paste.
9. Add essential oils, coloring, oats, and Vitamin E as desired.
10. Spoon into molds.
11. Make sure the stove is off.
12. Have a margarita.
13. Let cool for about four hours (this is where the boy comes in…you need something to fill your time!)
14. For gifts, tie up in thin sheets of parchment paper and wrap with raffia or hemp. Attach a handwritten note about how you labored for hours…over the soap, that is.
15. Leave everything a mess and use that extra raffia to create the next two steps of step one…you know how it goes!

March On, You Crazy Shamrock
The Irish love their traditions, from noshing on bangers and mash to banging on the wooden bar with their empty pint glass 'til the bartender brings another. Atlantans love tradition, too. Since 1858, we've had a St. Patrick's Day parade. From Thursday, March 15, to Sunday, March 18, Underground Atlanta plays host to Irish celebrations a plenty, including the 126th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday in downtown Atlanta at noon.

- Drop shot into Guinness and drink.
Black and Tan:
- Pour 1/2 glass of Bass Ale (or Harps Lager).
- Hold a spoon upside down over the glass and pour Guinness over the spoon until glass is full.
- The Guinness should settle on top of the beer, creating a black and tan appearance.
Irish Depth Charge:
- Pour a double shot of vodka into a double shot glass.
- Holding a pint glass upside-down over the shot glass press the shot glass against the bottom of the pint glass.
- Flip glass over and fill half with Bass Ale (or Harps Lager). And pour Guinness over a spoon as mentioned above.
- Remove double shot glass from bottom and drink.

Green with Envy
Show your Irish pride with gear so green you’ll score kisses even if you’re not Irish.
The Cap O Irish
“Sure ’tis Himself” is often heard in Ireland when a guy arrives and is greeted by friends, so in that spirit, this hat ($30.96) announces it for you and perfectly accentuated with four leaf clovers.
Who's Your Paddy?
We love this Irish Stein ($16.99) with the cheeky “Who's Your Paddy” leprechaun. But the fun doesn’t end there—there are t-shirts, buttons, stickers, and more with this expression.
Sláinte!
It ain’t easy being green...wait, what? All you need to be Irish green is this set of four etched shot glasses ($1.50) with garlands of shamrocks. To your health? Eh, of course!
Irish Whiskey Makes Me Frisky
Urban Outfitters does us proud with a smattering of Irish-themed tees ($28), thin and worn like you’ve had ’em for ages. Our fave slogan: Irish Whiskey Makes Me Frisky.
Lucky Charm
Be everyone’s lucky charm with this shamrock belt buckle ($12.99) that doubles as a bottle opener. Caught you looking!

Pocket Full Of Posey
Pink nails are making a comeback in the south, y'all. From blush to bashful, I've been spying gleams of rosey nails all over the city. MAC's probably got something to do with this movement, what with its new Barbie line and all. I'm totally loving Hot 'N' Steamy Pink ($10). Gotta love the girlie in all of us.
